ATTENTION ENGINEERS: Reading this letter may make you smile...and possibly become a better engineer.
A pastor, a gambler, and an engineer are all about to be executed by the guillotine.
The pastor is to go first, and the executioner asks, “would you like to face up to see it coming or face down?” He pauses for a moment then says, “face up.” So, he lies down and just as his life is about to end, the blade stops four inches from his throat! The executioner frees the pastor believing it was caused by divine intervention.
The gambler goes next and given the same choice replies “face up.” And again, as the blade drops it stops four inches from his throat! He too is set free, leaving the executioner stunned by the gambler’s incredible luck.
Finally, the engineer steps forward and chooses “face up.” Right as the blade is about to be let loose he yells, “STOP! … I think I see your problem!”
We all know jokes contain little truisms that make us laugh, especially when we embellish and exaggerate them.
It’s also without question that engineers have a gift for problem solving. Their scientific minds not only discover, but also muster the creativity to innovate the world.
The legendary aeronautical engineer Theodore von Karman said it best…
“Scientists study the world as it is, engineers create the world that has never been.”
But if we are honest with ourselves, sometimes we are so close to the immediate problem at hand, we lose sight of the big picture.
With our fictitious engineer friend facing the guillotine, his big picture should have been staying alive. For real-world product engineers, the big picture should be… their customers.

Don’t overlook how perception influences who will buy your products, and how perception affects the satisfaction of the customers who use your products.
Think about these questions…
What is the first impression people have when they see the product you created?
If the aesthetic quality is inconsistent with the functional quality, will your customers think “This is brilliant engineering,” or will something less than stellar run through their minds?
Here’s a crucial question for every product engineer…
Do you use graphics on your products? If so, how are the graphics on your products holding up in the field? Are the graphics peeling away, fading, or printed with poor image resolution?
If you answered “yes,” or “I’m not sure,” it is vital you address this problem. A poor graphic will devalue the perception of your product, and lessen the satisfaction of your customer.
But let me assure you our team at Galleon can fix this problem, and help you identify if the problem exists…or will exist soon enough.
How will Galleon do this for you?
Imagine you had anytime access to a printing, graphics, and prototyping facility that had an “A-team” ready to be deployed at your calling. This team had expert knowledge of:

For over 25 years, Galleon has been providing innovative design, printing, and converting solutions for engineers.
We have their wants and needs in mind.
- Communication
- Options
- Innovative Solutions
- Dependability
From small & mid-size companies to multi-billion dollar corporations, engineers have called on us for their branding graphics, product identification labels, safety decals, and custom die-cut components.
And we love working with engineers! They’re intelligent, creative, and focused. They are problem solvers. Perhaps they see some of these things in us too.
Like our valued customer Paratech…
Paratech, Inc. makes world-class emergency and law enforcement products. Their reputation throughout this industry is synonymous with “QUALITY.”
So, when they asked us to produce decals for their Damage Control System (DCS) struts, the decal specs and “must have” requirements included:
- Adhere to anodized stainless steel treated with a textured LSE saline resistant coating.
- Resistant to abrasion, solvents, and salts.
- High quality printing that matches specific color codifications.
- Reflective surface to be visible in low-light conditions.
- An extra-durable lamination with slip-resistant finish.
- Wrap 360 degrees around a 4” cylinder without peeling away or delamination.
- Meet military specifications and pass testing by the United States Navy.
We worked together with their engineering team, applying skill, ingenuity, and experience to arrive at a finished product that met and exceeded their requirements.
And in case you are wondering…
- Yes! We did so without using expensive tools.
- Yes! We provided no-hassle prototyping for testing.
- Yes! The product is RoHS compliant.
- Yes! We met their deadline.
- Yes! Pricing was within their budget.
- And Yes! THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY!
These decals have been battle-tested in the field by our military, firemen, and emergency service response teams in the most demanding environments.
When other companies ask Paratech who produces those decals, they tell them Galleon does.
And do you know what the good news is for engineers everywhere…?
We can do this for you!
So, we’re asking you to consider making us an extension of your team. Try us out. Include us on your vendor list. We could be an asset to you!
